I don’t know about you, but I always have room for cake, even after the biggest meal. It’s my theory that there’s a separate compartment in the stomach reserved especially for sweets. Makes sense, right? I’ve compiled a few tasty treats for you here, things I’m digging at the moment. Just a little something I like to call…
Macarons: I’m headed to New York next week! One of the things I’m most looking forward to is visiting my very favorite Parisian patisserie, Ladurée, which just opened its doors in Manhattan last year. If you can’t make it to Paris (and, really, who can on an average day?), this is the next best thing. They have the most amazing macarons and pastries I’ve ever tasted. As an alternative, these strawberry milk macarons with cookie dough buttercream look divine. Click here for the recipe from raspberri cupcakes’ blog.
Forget Strunk and White. Pick up Spunk and Bite! Moving past the boring old basics of composition (which are, ahem, necessary) and tackling the place of intensifiers like “so,” “yearning modifiers,” edgy language, and Beavis and Butthead, this is a grammar book for a new generation. Want to add some spunk to your writing? This is your guide. Fun to read, unintimidating, and full of useful tips.
This is Your Brain on Music: Oh, how I L.O.V.E the bookstore. Like it’s my boyfriend, love. This is just one of many books I picked up during a visit over the weekend. This one’s been out for a couple of years, but it caught my eye. Curious about why you love that Adele song so much? Want to know why some people think rap is music and others complain that it’s just noise? Bridging the gap between science and art, this book explains why we’re so in love with music, the crazy good things it does to our brains, and the reasons it’s fundamental to life.
Be Present: I just purchased this print from Jess LC, a Chicago designer and blogger. Cool, colorful fonts get me every time. But the message here is especially fitting for a teeth grinding worrywort like myself. Be here now. Okay, poster. I’ll try.
Gratitude Turns What We Have Into Enough: A nice little reminder to appreciate the people and things in our lives. Maybe we can’t attain every little (or big) thing our hearts desire. But if, like me, you’re reading this on your own computer screen, you probably have enough.
The Bouncy Ball Party: Sometimes life throws marvelously strange things our way. We just have to get out into the world keep an eye out for them. I’ll definitely be keeping mine peeled in New York. There are always plenty of wonderously bizarre, beautiful things on display in the Big Apple. Last time I was there, I saw a girl stroking her giant pet rat in front of a high-end shoe store. I’ll do my best to bring a little bit back for you. The wonder. Not the rat.
Enjoy your weekend. And feel free to share your own Cake List in the comments! See you next week!
